These terms are used loosely in the industry to describe duplication or replication jobs (see Duplication Replication whats the difference above). A short-run job is typically between 1-500 duplicated discs; cost per unit is slightly higher, but turnaround time can be as little as 24 hours.
A long-run job describes a minimum quantity of 500 and up to many millions of replicated units. It is these jobs that require glass-mastering, the process of creating a 'stamp' from which every disc is 'pressed'. For long-runs the cost per unit is brought down considerably due to the quantity ordered and the manufacturing process.
123iceni always include glass-mastering in our initial quote where necessary, so there are no hidden extra costs when it comes to the actual replication. Long-run jobs, as you would expect, take a little longer. Our capacity is over 250,000 units pressed and packed every day, and when you take in to account our strict quality control process, long-runs can take up to two weeks to be delivered.
When considering time-scale in any job, it is important to remember that 123iceni will require approval of artwork and check discs, and your response time will affect the despatch day. This is because progress cannot continue on any job until check discs have been signed off.
